Design and development of a vertical conveyance logistics system for CST
Assignment
An efficient, highly flexible vertical conveyance system is to be designed and developed for the Swiss intergenerational break bulk goods logistics project “Cargo Sous Terrain”, or CST for short. Autonomously driving small transport vehicles are to be conveyed down from the aboveground transfer zone of the logistics hub buildings through a shaft into the Sous Terrain logistics transport axis and from this tunnel back up to the aboveground reloading zones. The system must be able to handle the daily load routine and seasonal fluctuations as efficiently as possible with regard to resources. The tight space in the vertical shaft and the loading/unloading points are to be utilised as optimally as possible with regard to space and operation.
Solution
GRITEC have developed an innovative concept for CST with an innovative vertical conveyance system and a smart drive system. The system features a modular design with a focus on a high degree of industrialisation for manufacture and assembly. The conveyance capacity is extremely dynamically adaptable in the system to suit the volume of transported goods.

All structural situations at the hub locations can be covered with a scalable modular system. The innovative linear drive system makes it possible to implement the load-bearing platforms using lightweight technology and enables the systems to be operated with very little maintenance. Compact modules allow for highly flexible, fast installation in tight spatial conditions in the vertical shaft using standard tools.
