Assignment

A self-sufficient solar sauna, as an ecological innovation, is to encourage soft tourism in a mountainous area. Energy from the sun is to be focussed on the heating plate of the sauna stove using mirrors similar to a solar oven. The solar sauna is to follow the sun automatically throughout all seasons of the year, detect the current sunrise above the mountains and align itself automatically in the morning.

Solution

A modern, scalable software architecture was implemented. Actuators and safety-related functions are controlled using a Beckhoff IPC. Communication with the ASP.NET web application is implemented using the ADS communication protocol from TwinCAT. The web application offers a host of functions, including a configuration dashboard, sensor monitoring, cloud service queries and HMI control of the solar sauna.

Customer benefits

Our innovative sauna in the Swiss Alps features advanced functionality: Sensors continually monitor environmental conditions while alignment of the sauna is continually controlled and automatically adjusted to the position of the sun. A well-thought-out safety concept ensures utmost safety in case of malfunctions. The sauna also knows the geographical point for the sunrise and path of the sun to guarantee that optimal sunshine is received.
